Penguins 8, Flyers 2

Thanks to my friend Jim, I made it to last night’s Penguins/Flyers game at the Wachovia Center. What a game it was! The Flyers (who fired their coach and GM earlier this week), came out fired up. They scored the first goal of the game at 2:02 of the first period, and the place erupted. The crowd was then silenced 4 minutes later when Sidney Crosby tied the game off a beautiful give-and-go with defenseman Ryan Whitney. It was almost all Penguins from that point on. Crosby scored his first career hat trick and Evgeni Malkin scored his fifth goal in five NHL games. Malkin’s goal came on the power play toward the end of the second. It was a one timer from Gonchar scored at an impossible angle. He banked it off the back of Robert Esche in Lemieux-esque fashion. Fleury had some rebound issues in the first period, but luckily for Pittsburgh, the Flyers weren’t able to capitalize on them. The Pens were in fact out shot 14-4 in the first period, but escaped with a 2-1 lead. Pittsburgh was able to cut down on the shots during the second and third period (which is something they need to do to help out Fleury this season), and the total ended up being 33-30 in the Flyers’ favor.

ESPN's recap.

Check out this example of a Ruben's Tube. Except for the fact that he pronounces Dave Brubeck's name incorrectly, this is a pretty cool physics experiment.

Blog Web Page

The blog is an ASP.NET DataGrid using the ItemTemplate to create the formatting of each individual entry. Each entry is stored as a row in a SQL Server 2000 database with columns for the title, text, creation date, and the user ID of the person who created the entry. The code-behind page retrieves a DataView from the middle-tier and assigns it to the DataSource property of the DataGrid. No extra HTML has to be created for a new post. Just a simple database row!

Blog Entries

As mentioned above, each blog entry is just a simple database row. To create/edit an entry in the database, I've written a Blog Management Console. More details are available on the Projects page.
